I have planted MOON VINES in my personal garden which open in the evening with saucer sized flowers.  The hummingbird moth flies down at dusk about a dozen at a time to feed from the nectar of the Moon Vine. evening is the most productive time to watch for hummingbird moths.  They are often mistaken for hummingbirds due to the movement & color.  They also enjoy Phlox, red & white cypress vines which I also have in my garden.

Its rapidly beating translucent wings and habits of flying during the day and hovering to sip nectar from bright-colored flowers make it easy to mistake it for a tiny ruby-throated hummingbird; if it weren't for the antennae and extra legs
